The Upstate is beautiful country, but it isn't flat. A good retaining wall does two jobs at once: it stops a slope from washing away a little more with every storm, and it carves out level, usable space where there wasn't any.
Because JSB is a grading company first, our walls start where every lasting wall has to: in the dirt. Proper excavation, a solid base, and drainage behind the wall — the parts you never see are the parts that decide whether a wall lasts five years or fifty.
What we build
- Rock retaining walls — natural stone walls that hold back slopes and look like they belong on the land.
- Terracing — steep yards stepped into level, plantable, usable tiers.
- Patios — stone outdoor living space, properly based and graded to drain.
- Walkways — stone paths that stay put through Upstate winters and gully-washer summers.
- Erosion control — walls and stone work placed where your property is actively losing ground.
Why the dirt work matters
Most failed retaining walls don't fail because of the stone — they fail because of what's behind it. Water builds up, the soil pushes, and the wall leans a little more each year until it lets go.
We grade the slope, set a compacted base, and give water a way out before the first rock is placed. That's the advantage of hiring a grading contractor to build your wall instead of a landscaper who subs out the dirt work.
How it works
- Free site analysis — Jeff looks at the slope, the soil, and where the water goes, then tells you what will actually hold.
- Design & quote — height, length, stone, and price agreed before work starts.
- The build — excavation, base, drainage, and stone — all handled by the same hands.
- Follow-up — we check back after weather has tested the work.
