AC & heating repair

Air conditioner quit on a 95-degree afternoon, or the heat pump iced over during a January cold snap — either way, Bernie's crew diagnoses every brand of equipment and quotes the fix before touching a wrench.

Scope of work

What's included

  • Diagnosis on all brands of air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces — residential and commercial
  • Electrical component testing: capacitors, contactors, relays, and motors
  • Refrigerant leak detection and repair
  • Condensate drain clearing and overflow-switch repair
  • Coil and heat-exchanger inspection
  • Upfront pricing — you approve the repair cost before work begins

Why it matters

Most summer breakdowns in the Upstate trace back to a handful of parts. Run capacitors weaken a little every cooling season — heat is what kills them — until one July afternoon the compressor hums but won't start. Contactors pit and stick. And in our humid climate, condensate drains grow algae and clog, which is why so many "leaks" from an attic unit are really a backed-up drain pan tripping into the ceiling below.

The difference between a $200 repair and a ruined ceiling is usually how fast someone competent looks at it. That's the job: find the actual fault, fix that, and tell you honestly when a repair no longer makes sense against the age of the equipment.

A standard service call runs $89 ($129 weekends, $149 holidays). Maintenance members pay $69, $109, and $129 respectively — and go to the front of the line.

Procedure

How a repair call works

  1. Call or send a request

Describe the symptom — no cooling, short cycling, strange noise, water where it shouldn't be. We'll schedule the visit and tell you the service-call rate up front.

  2. On-site diagnosis

A technician tests the system — electrical components, refrigerant pressures, airflow — and identifies the actual fault, not just the symptom.

  3. Price before work

You get the repair cost and an honest read on whether fixing it is worth it. No surprise line items.

  4. Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system through a full cycle to confirm temperatures, pressures, and drainage are where they should be before we leave.
